The COVID-19 response with Lockdowns and closures, meant loss of jobs, incomes, food shortage, mounting debts etc, which has greatly affected the poor, The women though have been even more severaly affected as they still had to fulfill their care giving roles and provide food for the family. The result is not just loss of badly needed incomes but marginalization, increased violence and sometimes given the current environment, threats to their very survival. WWHI implicitly believes that economic freedom is the key to being empowered. Hence given the current scenario WWHI is focusing on imparting Skill Training for women so that they can earn their own money. To this effect the women are being trained in the making of pickles, jams, compotes, dry snacks etc. along with marketing skills and financial management.
